Georgia Woman Charged Extra by Nail Salon for Being Overweight (BV on Beauty)
Aug 30th 3:30 PM: This is becoming one fat nation, nothing--nothing--to be proud of. I think that more of the residents of this country of ours ought to start thinking about their health, their manners, and a bigger number of them even studying to become Americans. Not just weight opens doors, lady. Eatin' like the proverbial pig? Sounds like it.
Glenn Beck: Obama's America is like 'Planet of the Apes' (BV Black Spin)
Aug 10th 8:18 PM: I'm afraid that a large percentage of today's Americans (black or not) are about as intelligent or informed as apes. Or should I say, a bit less. Look at how far behind black high school graduate students rank, when compared to their competition. Fault of their teachers? No way. Look to the very students themselves, or (sad to) the parents.
McDonald's alum to launch healthy fast-food restaurant (WalletPop)
Jul 12th 9:00 PM: Sure, the notion sounds good on paper. However, remember that the majority of people occupying our good ol' USA (whether born here or "just-visiting" indefinitely) don't think of a meal as being satisfying unless it's heavy and greasy. After the initial interest in the name and logo of the proposed place, I doubt whether people will return. Possibly the woman holding the food samples in the picture shown here ought to get behind a good ol' fashioned typewriter and think up some "Why eat this...why not eat that" articles for the lesser educated potential customers.
Why 'Judge Judy' Rules Daytime Television (TV Squad)
Jun 17th 1:15 PM: Well, hasn't Oprah about had it anyway? Yes, Judge Judy and Oprah both have big mouths, yes. But aren't the words coming out of Judge Judy's a bit more knowledgeable, and far less "Hey, I'm here, brudda' and I'm gonna show you!". Cheers to Judy.
Best barbecue sauce? We grill the house brands (WalletPop)
Jun 14th 6:40 PM: Trader Joe's Barbeque Sauce -- ultra-superb! It reminds me of the place whereI tasted what I, at the time, considered the best barbeque dishes anywhere. And that was Kobe, Japan. Even though I (as a city boy) do not cook my chicken over charcoal, if I let my raw chicken pieces soak a bit in Trader Joe's sauce for a while before putting it atop a thick iron skillet on my stove, I'll be serving truly professional material to my hungry guests. And myself as well! The other day I even used some of it when frying up fresh shrimp, onions and green peppers. Yummy!
Verna Oller, little old lady and secret stock picker, leaves small town $4.5 million (WalletPop)
Jun 12th 9:53 AM: How right you are, Basketpam! One of the biggest reasons this nation of ours (U.S.A.) is going downhill very rapidly is because the typical consumer doesn't take a moment to see where his or her item being checked out at the cash register was made. A generation or two ago, seeing "made in wherever" made is think right away, "Ah, class!" Not now. Even American on-line clothing companies such as Lands End and Banana Republic have sewn-in labels that say where our clothing items were made. Oh yes, I know that our American distributors (like these firms) do make a profit. But is that profit as much as it would be if an American firm had employed a staff to create these items? No, it's not. But then, there are others who're convinced that the economics picture that'll save us all is thinking "only international." Almost along the lines of "illegal aliens okay!"

Jun 12th 9:05 AM: I wish the professor I'd had back in 1959 in "Economics 101" at Kent State University had thought along these lines. Oh yes, he was an elderly one, but tended to quote long out-of-date textbooks far too much. The little 'round the house, small town, piggy bank ideas were just too "low-class" for him. We're far too convinced these days that we must purchase phones, computers, TV hookups and entertainment media that we just plain can do without. And...not end up one of those bearded corner guys who can find nothing more to do in their old age than to sit against a curb, hold out empty beer cans and beg for money.
Vanishing in America 2010: New American classics in danger (WalletPop)
Jun 3rd 4:00 PM: Okay, Ace. Have you ever seen how quickly these fabric bags wear out? And if you've had Marketing 101 you'll know that this is done purposely. Those fabric bags aren't free. And don't the companies that make them (the majority of which are now in Korea or China) make d' big bucks on them? You'll agree, I'm sure, that the stores' names that're printed outside all of them are good free advertising. Well, let's just keep hoping there are people down there pickin' cotton to make those "permanent" (?) bags.
Should 'Sex and the City' Hang Up Its Jimmy Choos? (Popeater)
Jun 1st 7:56 PM: Jesus, no! Keep "S&TC" going strong. I mean, be realistic. Something of this insite and inspiration is exactly what'll keep this world of ours from going into its ultimate destruction. Sure, it's fiction. But then aren't a majority of those men and women in military gear 'round our globe in it for a job or "entertainment"? I sometimes think so. I saw the movie and couldn't help noticing how its two-and-a-half hour tale kept several hundred in that theater laughing their pants off. All races too, friends! Millions of us are fixin' for "Sex and The City3".
Keith Olbermann Scrubs Bush From Nightly Sign-Off (Popeater)
Jun 1st 1:28 PM: He'll be great if vaudeville should return, but not until.
